The San Francisco Beekeepers Association is the premier organization for beekeepers in our city. We work to promote the welfare of honeybees and other pollinators, as well as those who manage or just help to support them. Among specific activities, SFBA does public outreach on behalf of bees to schools and civic groups, conducts classes to train new beekeepers, collects and relocates swarms that show up in San Francisco, provide low-cost bee-related services to active beekeeepers, and promote safe, community-friendly and environmentally sound beekeeping practices.
The club was founded in 1976 and is organized as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. Membership costs just $30 per year ($40 for a family membership) and anyone can join SFBA now online (i.e., you don’t need to be a beekeeper to become a member).
During normal times, we hold monthly in-person meetings that are open to the public at no cost. During the pandemic, meetings have mostly moved online and real-time attendance requires membership, though videos of meetings are made public 3-4 weeks after each session.
